I have a bone-stock 2000 Corvette and live in Houston, TX. I would love to line up against any 2000 M3 around the area just to see how it performs against one another. Shoot me an email if you're interested. My email address is at tuanle@bmc.com

I have no ill-intension here, it's just for pure fun. I am a VERY big fan of M3, especially the new E46 ones. I would have bought one but the waiting list was (and still is) too damn long so I ended up with the 2000 C5.

Muf,

So did you purchase the M3? Are you here in Houston, TX? Let's meet up and do a few run.

Assuming you're a decent driver with a manual C5, you should have no trouble smoking an E46 M3. There's no getting around it: the C5 is a faster car. And a Z06 will completely spank an M3.

This is coming from a fellow Corvette owner: 1970 Stingray w/ worked 454

I like both cars a lot - which is why I ordered an M3.

An E46 M3 will NOT get "smoked" by a C5 corvette, especially on a track...the Z06 is only marginally faster to 60 MPH, but its' torque does start to show an advantage to 100...
I believe "spank" is a bit to strong.
Check out the August motor trend magazine.
The test the M3, Z06 Corvette and the boxter S...M3 ties the Z06 in the slalom...Z06 is marginally faster in all other tests...yet they pick the M3 as overall winner...hmmmmm

scout308,

Please try not to start a pissing contest over which car is better other. If you read my initial post carefully, you'll see that it is not the reason why I've made this post.

Personally, I love both car. All my previous cars were purchased base upon my personally taste and preferences. I can careless which car was pick by the magazines as the #1.

So far, I have received one reply from a E46 M3 owner living near my area. We will line up and do a few runs as soon as we can.

Again, it's just for pure fun.

it all boils down to driver skill between those 2 cars and also to which driver is willing to sacrifice his car for the best time.

Oh Tuan...what a scathing rebuttal.
Did you have help with such a powerful retort, or did you write it all by yourself?
You certainly have put me in my place.
Why, your command of the english language, not to mention your grasp of composition and punctuation are provocative to say the least.
I offer a different perspective, cite the facts and disclose the source of information and this somehow offends you.
I have had 3 Corvettes, always been a fan, was not my intention to insite hostility.

Let's take any of your personal issues or disagreements off to private email. Going back and forth via this post is just meaningless.

Let's be honest, an M3 will be "spanked" on the track if the drivers are equal. The Z06 is lighter, lower and has far more power. The M3 VS C5 is a whole different story, the C5 is softer than the Z06 and it has identical acceleration to the M3, but again it is a tad lighter, but IMO the M3 handles better. Now, take out the back seat of the M3 and it will slightly edge out the C5, take out the heated/power seats and it will beat the C5 every time and be close to the Z06. Just look at the CSL, it's 400lbs lighter and does 0-60 in 4 flat while running the Nurburgring faster than a Porsche GT3.

It's 3.9 0-60.

Yeah, Camaros are fast, but their quality and handling sucks.

Yes, thanks to a bump up to 405hp for 2002 instead of the 385 before. Impressive indeed.

I stand corrected on a stock C5 smoking a E46 M3. I got my lazy butt over to the Motor Trend and see they are almost identical in acceleration, with the C5 having a 2MPH higher trap speed in the 1/4. Totally comes down to driver skill in a race. I guess I've been hanging around the corvetteforums too much lately

Anyhow, I think there's no argument that a Z06 corvette will be showing its taillights to an E46 though, especially a 2002 model. Then again, on a road course, the M3's size and dynamics shine and make it a close one again.

Good to know the car I ordered is as fast as a C5, that happens to have a back seat and a real nice interior.
